So the first music review of the blog ...low and behold which artist do I choose to review none other than the gay mans BEYONCE. Feeling so stereotypical already I rush to play my favourite track “1+1” of the new album, simply titled “4” to ease my pain. Quite a bit of numbers for a woman who seems to have other assets than her brains going on for her. With many critics having bashed this album before it had even hit the shelves due to its weak but yet theatrically redeemed first single “Run the Worlds (girls)” which to me seemed like a sad attempt by our queen bee to recreate her glory days of being a Single Lady! Having had such a rocky start I have to say buying the album was a gamble for me, as with my petite student budget I’m not exactly spoilt for choice. As I made the decision to not purchase a local vocal powerhouse that I seem to be intoxicated by of late.                   The album like most beyonce albums is truly not ground breaking and is flawed a mass, where one can really penalise it if they choose to but there is that certain formula that Ms Knowles seems to have perfected, which is to captivate her listener with her distinctive ear friendly voice that can carry the biggest load of crap into dance floor worthy anthems which ultimately in my little opinion is the epitome of pop music. Notable tracks in this album has to be the vocally breathtaking “1+1” which she delivers a clean old school ballad that sends shivers down ones spine and later livens up your soul with my new dress up tune “Countdown”.  The entire album shall be memorable and amazing to us fans and just another album to music lovers who shall spot a couple of gems in it. Having said all of the above I have to add another mouthful by saying, what lacks with beyonce is the lack of musical and performance growth I think she has acquired. Which maybe the side effect of reaching the height she has reached in her career over the period she last released the commercially and musically groundbreaking “I am....Sasha Fierce”. As she had an opportunity to seal her place as the unshakable leader of the music pack of our generation with this album, but I feel she followed her enviable but yet known recipe that shall provide her with longevity but like all followed recipes lacks that zing that the new age listener is looking for that “relevance” consists of lately or as she sings “maybe we reached the mountain peak and there’s no more left to climb”  her career has reached its peak and maybe she has run out of ground to climb!
